Québec à vol d’oiseau: 15 years of outfitter stories

The strong connection between Québec à vol d’oiseau (QVO) and Quebec’s outfitters goes back many years. What makes this so special is how quickly the hunting and fishing destinations under the Québec Outfitters Federation embraced our television project.

I can’t imagine this ongoing adventure, broadcast here and abroad, continuing without their steady support. For 15 years, outfitters have been our second home. Our daily quest to capture breathtaking wildlife and nature footage has led to encounters with many passionate and hardworking people—outfitters who pour their hearts into what they do.

Through countless trips to outfitters, we’ve really explored Quebec and gotten to know it better. Every visit brings new encounters and many stunning sights.

Over the years, we’ve gathered more stories than there are outfitters in Quebec! We could fill pages with humorous tales and special moments in the field, but that’s not the focus here.

For us, the real story is about the outfitter owners and those who work there—the people who chose to become stewards of these vast, untamed lands, committing themselves to preserving the land and sharing it with visitors. Outfitters don’t count the hours or the days; they are tireless, determined and endlessly creative. For them, every day is a new chapter, and every guest becomes a key character in the great experience they’ve built.

Whether they work as a couple, or on their own, outfitter owners are generous with their knowledge and happy to share it with visitors. They often teach hunting and fishing techniques in their own way, through stories of their experiences. Their boundless passion is helping to create a new generation of enthusiasts, sparking an interest that ensures the future of these popular activities. Few among them regularly hold a fishing rod or rifle in their hands these days; instead they’ve chosen to step back and focus on sharing the joys of outdoor adventures with others. Their true satisfaction comes from seeing visitors enjoy the wildlife, nature and remote accommodations. Having visited many, we can confidently say: mission accomplished.

Booking a stay at an outfitter means you’re ready to be part of this great story. It also means being open to a complete change of scene where nothing resembles your life in the city. Nature, and the stunning backdrop of Quebec’s beauty, complete the experience. Each stay at an outfitter is filled with awe, learning and joyful moments.

The story of Quebec’s outfitters has been told around the world, in large part through our QVO visual project. Looking back, we’re grateful to have been able to visit so many incredible places. As we look ahead, we’re confident of finding more hidden gems in our province’s vast natural playground—places you can continue to share with us. Outfitters are part of our heritage, and as long as the word “outfitter” exists, the spirit of hunting and fishing will thrive. Now, it’s your turn to be part of the story...
