Hunting methods
Hunting with a bow/crossbow
This type of hunting is the most traditional of all and employs a projectile weapon such as a bow or crossbow. Bow hunting requires several hours of practice, while the crossbow is easier to master—and indeed, is gaining popularity in Quebec. It can also be used in conjunction with the bow, especially for big game hunting. Both weapons have a useful range of about 50 metres.

Hunting with a black powder rifle
Black powder rifle hunting, often called “ancestral”, is a type of hunting using a muzzle- or breech-loading rifle. The hunter can only shoot one bullet at a time. Since the range is much shorter than with a traditional rifle, you need to get closer to the animal, which increases the chance of being detected. Hunters who use this type of gun love a good challenge and have great respect for the animal, in addition to being a very good shot!
Hunting with a firearm
This type of weaponry includes the shotgun and the rifle. Shotguns are used for small game and migratory bird hunting, since they shoot a spray of shot or slugs with a maximum effective range of 50 metres. Rifles shoot a single projectile over longer distances and with greater speed and accuracy; their strike force makes for efficient large game hunting.

Guided hunting
Guided hunting gives both novice and experienced hunters a chance to join a professional throughout the hunt. These experts will generously share their know-how and expertise. From the right location to when to shoot, how to position yourself and what to use as bait, these enthusiasts will take you through all the steps. They’re valuable partners who will help you discover the best that hunting has to offer and maximize your chances of success.
Hunting dog
Dogs are loyal companions, and this holds just as true in hunting. They can be very useful for carrying out various hunting tasks. For example, retrievers will bring back game that’s been shot down, pointers will locate your prey, and scent hounds will use their sensitive noses to track and flush it out. Lastly, bloodhounds will follow the trail and find wounded game.

Day hunting
Waterfowl or small game can be hunted by day. Because of this, some outfitters give their customers the option of enjoying their vast lands for the day only, and thus avoid having to pay for lodgings. This is the ideal package for those who live near an outfitter and want to enjoy a day out with friends.
