Written by Stéphane Martinez – Development of wildlife – Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune
In North America, the world of hunting and fishing is in the midst of one of its greatest revolutions. In the context of economic crisis and global competition, clients’ needs, tastes and constraints are evolving at an unprecedented pace.
As a countermeasure, the Gouvernement du Québec and the Québec Outfitters Federation have strengthened their partnership to adapt to this reality. Every year, the Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune (MRNF) invests millions of dollars from the sale of fishing and hunting permits to support wildlife-related activities. In particular, we aim to collectively encourage the next generation of anglers and hunters and to develop new products. This participatory management of our resources has clearly been successful for our wildlife—including large animals as much as small game or waterfowl—since the animal population is not only doing well, but even reaching new records in Québec.
In addition, the Gouvernement du Québec is launching the Plan Nord, the greatest development initiative ever to be implemented north of the 49th parallel. In time, the Plan Nord will open new possibilities and untouched territories that are relatively untapped. For hunting and fishing enthusiasts, these areas will be the next frontier. Northern outfitters are already offering new products and experiences for those who enjoy human adventure in vast landscapes. Together with the Québec Outfitters Federation, the MRNF will continue supporting the development of outfitting operations as much in the north as in the rest of Québec.
The MRNF is also a part of this momentum, shown by numerous outfitters, to reinvent hunting and fishing activities so that clients can enjoy an even more enriching experience, for instance by integrating other tourism products such as snowmobiling, wildlife observation and the discovery of the “riches of Québec.”
Today, Québec is better equipped and prepared than ever before. Its offer is diversified, and we must search for, imagine and create new products through our existing ones in order to get off the beaten track. With us, every client is able to create their own hunting and fishing experience.
We have all the ingredients, but the recipe is up to you. Have fun with it!
In Québec, anything is possible!
