Black powder riffle

Black powder riffle

Black powder riffle

Also known as a muzzleloader, this weapon resembles old-style hunting rifles used by the first settlers of New France. Its accurate range is somewhat restricted, loading takes considerable time and it shoots single projectiles.  For the hunter, this ups the challenge and, for the game, the likelihood of escaping is increased. In Quebec, black powder rifles are used mostly for white-tailed deer, and only within a designated season.
