Our territory, vast and full of game as it is, is packed with destinations for practicing all manner of outdoor sports. These dream-inspiring places are known as outfitters. There, you’ll find owners, guides and labourers who chose to dedicate their lives to protecting the wildlife of Québec and sharing it with anyone who so wishes.
Le Camp productions partnered with the Québec Outfitters Federation and Tourisme Québec to show the various hunting and fishing sites of Québec on screen. The filming plan, though complex, can be summarized in a few lines: shine a spotlight on the craftsmen and their facilities, give top billing to the outfitter managers and workers, and showcase the services they offer.
Following an initial selection made during the winter of 2011, thirteen outfitting operations were selected by the production team through the Québec Outfitters SMI network. They were chosen to impart variety to the show, based on the services they provide, their geography, and the type of game or fish found there. The fieldwork began in April and since that time, our cameras travelled from the Gaspé Peninsula to the Témiscamingue region and from southern Québec to James Bay. Our only regret is that we didn’t have an opportunity to film the North Shore—this will be remedied during the next season.
Throughout the filming, we met all sorts of enthusiasts, builders, and missionaries of hunting and fishing. Their constant concern with embellishing their natural environment and their impressive dedication inspired us in our search for top-notch shots.
The finished product, which will air on RDS in Québec, Wild TV in English Canada and Sportsman Channel in the US starting in April 2012, is sure to please sportsmen looking for a little piece of paradise in Québec. Narrated and translated in either of the two official languages depending on the audience, the stories of these outfitters will be told alongside hunting or fishing excursions, as Mother Nature wills it. Sometimes modest in size, sometimes enormous, Québec outfitters are always superb, and they’re waiting for you . . .
